Homeless Evolving to Self Sufficiency (HETTS)
CRWorks started the Homeless Evolving to Self Sufficiency (HETSS) project in 2003 as a transitional housing and wrap-around services program for the benefit of eligible families in the Gary region. It was funded by HUD in 2004 to the tune of $420,000 to provide 7 units of housing to families who had become homeless. Our ongoing efforts are helping families develop a career path and plan and gain the life skills necessary to gain a self-reliant existence for the family unit.
Through our partnerships with other local agencies and organizations, we have provided direct supportive services, while making the appropriate mental health/addiction referrals, as well as comprehensive, wrap-around social services. Our alliance with state agencies has reinforced our ability to provide workforce development and educational components to our program.
The HETSS program has assisted over 50 families in NWI to become self-sufficient and recently got renewal funding from HUD for three additional years.
